Yeah Kenny your right!
My 390, I put in, in 1978 replacing the I-6 had 120k on it pulled it down took it to a shop the crank stayed std. & did not really need to boring had them take it .30 over. The rocker shafts were grooved enough so replace them.

I put 140k on the engine and replaced it with another one that my son & I built that would run on regular gad with 8.3 pistons. As the first motor 9.5 that was a car motor had to run high octane when having the c/o camper on it..

The old motor smoked only on the Right bank. I later pulled the intake & heads found the intake port runner sucking oil at the exh. cross over. The cylinder were still in great shape with great compression with 5 psi. I never tached it over 4k no reason.

FE's do tend to over oil the top end. You can only get so much oil in between the rocker and shaft and all the excess floods the head. You do not need an inch or two of oil sitting in the head and submerging the springs and possibly leaking past worn guides. If you've ever taken a valve cover and cut the top out of it and start the engine you will see what I mean. Restricting the oil flow is a good thing and keeps the oil in the rest of the engine. Not trying to argue but when you have oil "standing" in the head that is excess. That is not going to stop the gaulding of the shaft/rocker assembly.

I've only seen that happen when the return hole plug up the pieces of harden valve seals.

I use high volume oil pump and always have an old pair of valve covers cut the tops off on every new engine build, I done every since 1963 to adjust the rocker arms to help keep oil from flying on to my headers an smoking out of the garage. Oil from rocker arms not flooding over.

Oil leak out the sides of the rocker right so they don't have much of any pressure to back up the flow as it just runs out.

So by reducing rocker are oiling that just run out the side at below the rocker it building up more pressure in the oiling system Right! Also putting more stress on the oil pump 1/4" hex drive rod that cause it fail. So where the benefit the these motors a gone over 200k under normal driving.

Race motors are always being pulled apart for this or that reason. Flat cam lobes, sucked a valve, Broken Valve-spring, A cam change, bent push rod.

No end of lifting the hood with a race motor, yes been there done that.
