I have a hand held CB you are welcome to try, but last time I tried to use it, it was very hit and miss.
Del has a dash mount one that rides around in POJ, that he may be willing to loan you if you talk real sweet to him. it has a mag mount Antenna, I just threw it in the back of the Tahoe when I went to South Dakota. it worked real well for me on that trip, but its bounced around in POJ a little since then. It has a cigarette lighter end on it, so just plug it in and go.

I was hoping to go ahead and buy one so I have one from now on, thanks for the offer though!

I did some light researching and it sound like the ones without antennas don't fare the best with range and that something like this should offer the best bang for the buck:

Amazon.com: Cobra HHROADTRIP 40-Channel CB Radio: Car Electronics Amazon.com: Cobra HHROADTRIP 40-Channel CB Radio: Car Electronics

A portable one? Or one that has to be permanently mounted?

Hrm, maybe I'll just get a mag mount antenna and use the Cobra I have laying in the garage. Do I have to "tune" the mag mount antenna?

You don't have to, tuning just gives you optimum performance.

Every time I read about them on forums it seems that everyone is screaming that if you don't tune them then they won't work more than 10 yards in front of your vehicle, not to mention the complete bum luck I've had with full units in my prior vehicles. That's why I was leaning towards the hand held unit but if you guys think I'll be just fine with buying a mag mount antenna and using the installable unit in my garage then I'll give that a try first.
