So I was climbing around under my 2016 F250 yesterday after removing the spare and I noticed what appears to be a computer module mounted above the spare tire. Just curious if anyone knows if this is main computer for the truck or something else?
I do believe that is the fuel pump driver module. These are notorious on the F150's because road spray hits the computer and rusts a hole in the housing causing a short on the rainiest of days. I bought my truck last year and rinsed up in there and sprayed fluid film to help protect it, I'm not sure its as venerable in our trucks.
That sounds about right agpopp. Definitely not the main PCM, but trucks in the past have had the FPDM mounted around that area of the truck because it's close to the tank.
with out a pic, cant say...BUT..if you finance a truck in the north east...some lenders require the installation of GPS tracking and these come in all shapes, sizes, and get installed in the strangest place.

Even for personal trucks? What are they trying to protect against? If it is theft, I hope your cops act faster that ours because that module will be gone in but a few hours around here.

Not only theft, but im sure when you default it makes it easier for them to find their property. More than likely if you read the fine print your signing away for them to do this bla bla.

This I can see if there is a high rate of default (higher than cars) on trucks.
In Chicagoland a a stolen Honda Accord or Toyota Camry is reduced to its component parts and they are for sale on CL before the police report is filed. A truck might take a couple hours more but that tracker would be off the vehicle the second they hit a parking structure if it was known "they all have them."

yes, exactly
you sign a form agreeing to have the GPS tracker installed...its strickly asset recovery.
The box is about 6-8 inches square and about 2 1/2" inches high. I'm editing my description because my eyes (and apparently my memory) are not as good as they used to be. It's really hard to see but the box is black. appears to be sealed and has wiring harnesses attached. Here are a couple of pics. It's hard to get a shot because of the location.
Location above spare
Now I'm really curious!
