I am back asking questions again. 1977 302 with a c-4 auto. I bought it as a basket case. Last week I was able to get the engine running with the rebuilt carb.
Today I wanted to test drive so I started filling the transmission with the engine running. It was taking the fluid fine and then all of the sudden a large amount of fluid started draining out of the servo area on the passenger side.
I have checked and rechecked to be sure it is not the cooler lines or the dipstick. I am sure It is the servo gasket.
Is this normal for a truck that was sitting? I don't want to get over my head. I took apart a parts transmission I have to see what is going on in there and I am comfortable replacing the gasket.
Should I replace more than this gasket? I have called three local parts stores and none of them have this gasket. I am not done searching as i am sure once I go on line I will find it.
Any thoughts on this?
Thanks

I ordered the servo gasket. I am waiting for it to come in. I also picked up a new filter and gasket. I took off the pan and drained all the fluid, I removed the filter knowing that there is a spring and a small metal valve or sleeve of some sort under the filter. I had a bucket under the valve body which caught the spring but I cannot find the metal piece. I am working in a clean garage floor. I have searched everywhere. I began to doubt if the meat part was used. I went to a parts c-4 tranny I have, and took it apart. I found both pieces, the spring and the sleeve. so I know it is required. I have never driven this truck, but is it possible that the spring was installed but not the metal sleeve and someone drove the truck?
