94 F-350, 4x4. I get a clunk when I turn the steering wheel sitting still or hit a bump at slow speeds (15- roughly 30 mph). I replaced the inner tie rod end. It moves quite a bit and clunks. Could this be my problem? I can move it with my hand. I can feel the clunk through the drivers floorboard. The rod end is the only thing I found loose while it's not moving. Could I have gotten the wrong one? Can anyone check their truck to see if the rod end moves so much? I have a C***y but it's a different set up.
Of course there should be no slop in your linkage of any kind. Have someone get in the truck and turn the wheel while you go down under and look for sloppy joints etc. any sloppyness should be repaired..
Ok-I changed the inner tie rod before and the outer tonight. I think that's what they're called because I get a different name for it everytime. Anyway, I had someone turn the wheel for me and saw it twisting pretty hard. Then I turned the wheel back and forth and saw it too. Changed them. Still have the clunk. Here's what the inner looks like. Does it look right? I still get a metallic clunk when I twist this bar. Should it be seated more?
Don't know what you mean seated" tighten everything and that should be fine. The place where the treaded part goes through should not be loose.....Picture too small
the ball joints turn a little. They have to have a little "roll" to them. They should not be loos, however (like a nut in a socket, you don't want it rattling around in there)
Check your sway bar ends and make sure the track bar bolts are tight.
