I would like to find out exactly what the performance difference between a flowmaster 40 series and say, a magna flow or dynomax. I personally find it hard to believe that there is that much of a difference.
there isnt although magnaflow uses a strait through design however that kills your low end torque. i have the flowmaster 50series non deltaflow and it has been great
How does a straight through design kill low end torque. I'm not saying it doesn't, am just wondering what causes it. I would guess it has something to do with the back pressure, (or lack of)but why would backpressure increase torque at the low end.
It does not kill low end torque. I dont know maybe im wrong, but thru what ive experienced i dont really think it would much. Someone i know had a flowmaster 70 series on there truck, than replaced it with a Dynomax Ultraflow which is straight thru, and he picked up a lot more low end with it. He than replaced the ultraflow with a Dynomax bullet, and once again gained even more power with it.

No they do not kill low end power, I have a Magnaflow on my F-150 and it makes a bit more power than my old Blowmaster did.
The sound is also very nice, deep and mellow but not raspy. Very different and very little drone on the freeway.
The internal sound deadening increases torque down-low by having area for the gasses to go.
