You have posted this question in the wrong forum, this is for 1980/86 F100 and larger series trucks.

You want the 1973/79 F100 and larger series trucks forum.

Here is a link to a wiring schematic for your truck. The only thing that should be on the starter side is the starter wire.

Smoke or spark from a terminal typically means you need to clean and tighten that cable end.

By chance can you tell me what is supposed to be hooked up where the battery wire connects to the solenoid. There is another wire that someone told me is a fuaible link ??? And it's currently conected to the solenoid with the positive battery wire

Bat positive-solenoid side closest to bat. Along with the other wires that have large ring terminals.
Other side of solenoid to starter
Red (usually) small wire to small terminal on sol marked "s"
Brown (usually) small wire to small terminal on sol marked "I"
Battery negative to the engine block

I attached a picture of mine.
Heavy red wires.
One from battery
One to starter.

The terminal closest to the battery side of the solenoid is the one you have to jump to engage the starter.

Anything connected on the battery side should be on a fuse or a fusible link.

Sorry I can't go into more detail, but I'm in the middle of a 4 wheel brake job.
