Charging help

I have a 98 expedition 4.6 4x4. New alternator and battery. But something is not letting the alternator charge. I have 12v on both sides of the megafuse and the online 20 amp fuse is good. With the key on I have 12v on one pin of the voltage regulator plug. What am I missing. Somebody help please

What about the 20-amp Alternator Field Minifuse located below and to the right of the battery mega fuses?

Figured it out

I figured it out. The fuses were good. I took a jumper wire and connected to pos of battery and the ran it to the voltage regulator plug and put a tester on it and came back with it charging. Take the jumper off and no charge. So something in the wiring harness for the vr is messed up. Do until I figure that part out I'm thing of just putting the vr on a switch to be able to drive it. Lol

There is an issue on some model where the alternator wiring harness lays on a piece of tubing and wears through. I'll see if I can find the post around here somewhere.

Here is the thread which shows the harness and how it wears through, starting at post #12.

That ks for the reply. But I looked and my harness doesn't run along that path. Mine runs along the firewall and plugs in right behind the megafuses. And then that plug runs into my wiring harness for the truck then into the ignition somewhere and that's where I believe my problem lays. So for the quick fix until I can actually run down the harness I'm gonna put a good switch on it and turn it on when we use the truck and off when not. I'll put in another in line fuse for that switch also just to be safe

Here's the wiring diagram for the charging system in case it helps. If from 1999, I didn't have a 1998 one, but it should be virtually the same.
