I have a 87 4x4 f150 4spd with a 300 in it. I lost spark one day driving down the road. Thought it was the TFI, turned out that my cam gear is jacked and caused the dizzy gear pin to shear off. I thought the roll pin just broke at first and put a brand new dizzy in set timing to 10. It idled fine but would jump around and cut out when I hit 2500-3000. I noticed I could see the dizzy bounce up and down a little at idle with the lock bolt torqued down tight. I assumed my timing was off and took it to local shop. They confirmed my timing and test drove it. They pulled the dizzy and spotted the cam gear with thin sharp teeth and my new dizzy gear was partially worn in a strange pattern. They told me to replace the cam. So I ordered a new cam. It is a Crower 19211. Duration @ 50 is 192 int and 196 ext. Lift is .426/440. Will I be able to tell any difference from this cam? Many people recommend the Crower 19212 but I thought it would trade off a little mileage and raise my peak power higher than I want. I was wanting to play to the low end torque strength of the engine. The only mods to the truck is a K&N slab filter,Accel supercoil, and deleted cat exhaust ran through a thrush glasspack. Mild head porting/clean up is planned in the future.
I doubt you will notice any positive difference because the cylinder head is the reason this motor only makes 150hp, a proper head for this engine would have 2.02/1.60 valves and flow the same as a head off a 460 so if you do break out the dremel tool don't hold back.
