I'm building a 400 (408 30 over) with aussie head and Tim pistons for the aussie head. I have a extrem energy cam 256 and a 600 cfm carb with a performer 400 intake from edelbrock . My question is what kind of carburetor spacers I should use? 1/2" , 1" or 2" spacer ?
It does sound like fun, but I can't help with the spacer because I have no idea how much room you have. I would put the engine in, carb and air cleaner on, and measure. You may have to even use a low-profile air cleaner.
Since you bought pistons from Tim you might ask him how tall of a spacer to use. But, it varies so much by cam, compression, and gearing that it is hard to say.
Hopefully you are seeing how complex this is, and why we can't answer your question given what little we know of the engine, vehicle, driving conditions, etc. (And probably couldn't if we knew all about your vehicle.)
I understand that now how complex it is after the reading to tell someone else what kind and what tickness to use. But after reading it all I'm going with 4 holes and 2 inch thick. That was very helpful in my decision. Thanks alot Gary. I very appreciate your help.
I have found a 1" four hole spacer seems to help fuel distibution and low/mid range. a 1/2" would probably be about the same. Raising the carb should help with vapor lock.
