Kenwood DDX372BT 6.2" DVD Receiver
Kenwood DDX372BT 6.2" DVD Receiver
Bought a 2008 F250 XL 4X4 Ext Cab last month to trailer my 40yr old renovated Jeep.
I now realize that I really need a a backup camera. Also probably a good idea to get Bluetooth. I am looking at a Kenwood DDX372BT 6.2" DVD Receiver with Built in Bluetooth, License Plate Rear Backup Camera.
Does anyone have this in her F250 truck? Below is a pic of my current dash configuration. Is license plate camera the way to go?
As an aside, I bought a P3 trailer brake controller and installed it in 30 minutes (after looking at many videos-what did we do before You Tube!) It was easy because everything is modular in this truck - just "plug & play." There is probably even a modular plug for the coffee maker. But I think the Kenwood (if I get it) should probably be installed by a professional. The smartest move I made was to buy the specific P3 brake controller electrical harness for my truck. I can't find a specific electrical harness for the F250 for this Kenwood receiver that I should get.

Also found the mic in the unit was not very good so i installed a
Kenwood Accessory Store
Clipped on the head liner in front of the visor . Ran the wire up the pillar and tucked under the head liner

Re: Kenwood DDX372BT. Thanks for the responses. I have ordered the HU and it will be here next week. I have also ordered the Metra 50-5812 Ford housing kit. For the price I'm paying I have a feeling I'll need to upgrade the mic too. If your mic is working well, can you post a picture of its location? No sense in reinventing the wheel I say.

I brought the cable in the floor on the drivers side at the front seat and used an extension cable so if the cab had to be lifted off the frame there was a disconnection point.

I put this camera on over 3 years ago hooked it to a pioneer head and it works great. Can't beat the price, $16 when I bought it, now they are $9.
I installed the Kenwood dnx692 stereo in my 2008 last fall. I used the Maestro module in order to retain my steering wheel controls and Sirius satellite radio. Everything works great and with the maestro module/ stereo I can monitor gauges such as eot, ect, trans temp, battery, fuel pressure etc through the stereo.
If you get the proper connectors for your truck everything is plug and play. I did all my wiring on the kitchen table. The only two wires I needed to hook up in the truck were at the obd2 port for the Canbus in order for the satellite and steering wheel controls to operate.
I also installed the Kenwood back up camera. Ran the camera cable in through drivers floor area using the rubber plug that seals the hole for access to the cab bolt. Your trigger wire for the back up camera is located in the passenger side kick panel, can't remember exact color of wire but I can get it for you if you need.
All in all I love the Kenwood deck and backup camera, both work great. Also love that I was able to retain factory Sirius satellite and steering wheel controls etc. as I said install was relatively easy with all the wiring except for the two canbus connections, and the rear camera trigger wire being done on the kitchen table.
Programming the maestro module is fairly easily done by plugging it into your computer and selecting options through step by step menus. You can also program secondary commands for each steering wheel button...i.e., pressing and releasing volume down once turns the stereo volume down, pressing and holding the volume down button mutes the stereo.

I had a Pioneer head unit that I ran for years in my old truck and I was real happy with it. I would say you will probably be happy with the Kenwood.
Also, if you can install a brake controller, you can probably install a radio. There really isn't much to it. Just get the correct installation kit and wiring harness so you don't hack up the factory harness. At that point you just wire the harness to the radio. All wiring information should be in the manual. Then you just plug it in and mount it up and reinstall your trim pieces. Piece of cake and I bet there are even youtube videos on it.

It's fairly easy to install the units in these trucks. There are places like Crutchfield that have vehicle specific instructions and kits. It makes the process fairly easy. I put a Kenwood in my 08 F150, I think the whole job took a few hours.
Follow the direction connecting the receiver plug to the Ford plug, This has the controls for the steering wheel.
I put my GPS and XM antennas by the 3rd light.
The receiver is in the dash.
Do some research or phone crutchfield to get the right harness for your truck and radio, so things like steering wheel controls work, have the right signal for when you shift into reverse [backup camera] and press the parking brake [if your radio supports video] and that the harness supplies enough power to the radio [some harnesses only put out 1 or 2 amps and some radios need 10+].
Putting a little more time in getting the right harness makes the installation go a lot faster and easier...
