Hey everyone, my name is Veronica and I'm on here because I have a couple of questions about towing and my ford excursion. My X is an 00 with about 120,000 miles on it, it's a v10 gas. It's on a 6 inch lift we are heading out to Glamis this weekend and we are pulling a Weekend Warrior 25ft. For thanksgiving we went to Gordon's Well and it pulled fine but we had problems braking. My husband does not know crap about cars. When I married him I already owned my truck and used it just to pull a regular single axle trailer and two quads and a dirt bike
1. Do I need to purchase a brake system
2. If I do need one what is the best model

1) Most Definitely
2) I have use several $40-$50 units & they always have worked great. I could not tell any deference between them. I have no EXperience with high dollar models.
This video for the prodigy p2 controller is worth watching, it runs through how to set the controller up after you install it.
( I am sure the p3 has a video if you search but since i have a p2 this is the link I have)
Sorry to be nit picky but that "experts" answer is not very experty. LoL
The p2 doesn't have a toggle to switch between modes it has a button.
other then a different control panel layout it has a few added features like a no brakes warning light just in case you failed to notice you do not have any brakes.
I use and recommend the Tekonsha P3 and the Ford pigtail that connects it to your EX's factory plug up under the dash board, easy plug and play installation and great trailer brake performance.
With your EX's 6" lift what size tires do you run? Do you know what gear ratio your Ex has? All of the Weekend Warrior trailers that I've seen and read about seem to run fairly heavy for their size, do you know what your loaded for a trip WW scales at?
Pictures please, we love EXs here and an EX dragging a toyhauler is always pretty cool to see.
I use an old Tekonsha Voyager like Rhino has. It has been in at least 3 different trucks of mine and I just kept moving it to the next one until I got the Ex. Gotta love the plug in Harness. I even used it in a rental truck once and stuck it in a dash pocket.... It can be touchy to get dialed in when you start with a new trailer, but I understand what it does and how to set it up, and it just works. If I had to buy one today, it would be the Prodigy P3 just because of the different stored trailer settings and its ability to switch between them easily. That and the P2 isn't much cheaper.
