I'm guessing some of this has been beat to death but just wanted to confirm a few things about doing a 2" leveling kit. Being it's an 03 it's pretty simple with the front leafs.
Guessing I need to upgrade the front shocks to accept 2" more travel?
Would folks also recommend at that time going to a dual cylinder stabilizer set up? Is the single factory good enough? I am going to replace it at any rate.
I wouldn't spend the extra $$ on a shock designed for a lift when the stock shocks will work fine. I think you'll over pay for something you don't need.
Most shocks in stock form can handle up to a 3" lift without replacing the shock. They recommend replacement when going up 4" or more. Honestly, I don't think you'll find a shock labeled for a 2" lift, most say for a 2-4" lift.
You have the same leaf spring set up I do and the stock height Bilstein 5100 is a perfect fit. I've never bottomed them out or topped them by over extension. If it was required, I believe they would advertise it that way... "this kit requires a taller shock" or would be part of the kit, most 2" lifts say "compatible" with stock shocks.
I don't think I'd do a 2.5 lift either, then it will point to the sky and may even require a rear lift to even it out... goal is a level truck? There's a thread going now about 2.5" being to much.
Appreciate the info. Yes, goal is level, the kit I am looking at is 2", no need to go more than that. Just sick of the *** end being higher than the front, and to add to this I barely have the clearance now with rims/tires we installed the other night.......265/60R20 Wranglers.
Tires are half tread and just touch the mud flaps when turned full stop on the inside, so when time comes for new tires, spells trouble. According to my eyeballing a 2" should address this.
I have a 2.5 zone on my 04. I added shocks because they really arnt that much and I figured with everything apart it was a good time to replace them. I think it was maybe 150$ for 4 of them. They are standard length. The adjustable track bar made install a breeze and the truck rides so much nicer now
