Howdy All
My 2000 Ranger has been leaking fluid around the front Diff cover so I decided to pull the cover and reseal it. It was obvious that this was going to be a tight job but I didn't anticipate running into a bolt that can't be removed because interference from the front cross member.
Anybody have any suggestions?
Thanks.
I'm trying to remember if the 2000 has the new suspension...
I looked at my 2004 and although all the bolts look like they'd be no problem to remove, I don't think that the cover would be able to be taken off because the frame is only about ¼" away where the ring gear protrudes forward.
I'll be back on it this weekend. I work a 4 day 10 hour schedule so I generally put the wrenching off until Friday morning so that I can focus and spending some quality time with it. Thinking about it for a few days now it seems like, at the least, I'm going to have to pull the drive shaft and loosen the mounting hardware.
With no responses here I'm guessing that no body else has been stubborn enough to try this?
I just really don't like vehicles that travel around marking their territory.
I've pondered this on my 2002, I think it's a similar setup to your 2000. I haven't tried it but you might be able drop the driveshaft. loosen the diff bracket bolts while supporting the diff assembly with a jack and possibly move the diff back an inch. Don't know if you'll have enough slack in the CV/half-shafts or not. Might be just enough.
