Just replaced the Volt Reg. in my 65, with the 390, purchased a cheap generic brand from local 'CarQuest', which I believe is now being purchased by Advance Auto Parts? I usually purchase replacement parts thru Napa; however, in this case decided to support local auto parts store, and friend. Best as I can determine, the male pins on the voltage regulator measure approx. 3/16" and the harness female receptacle are about the same, tight fit.

1963/64 Thunderbird & 1965/80 all: The original alternator regulator had points and a black or blue painted cover.

In 1981, Ford replaced it with an electronic regulator that has a mostly flat aluminum cover with MOTORCRAFT on the diagonal.

The wires plug on without any mods.

Thanks for the help Dave and Number Dummy I will look a little closer and
check the wiring why the females won't hold the regulator in tight
