SD short box questions
My F-250's box is starting to have rust spots rotting through. Now I see that the bed and the box walls have a seam in between them, is this welded together underneath or is it two pieces?
Another question, a flat piece of metal right above the pumpkin rotted through and fell on the pumpkin/tailpipe. I discovered it today and ripped it out, as I didn't want it to fall out while I'm driving. Is that a heat shield?

To the OP just get a complete new box and be done with it. If you can live with the body lines being slightly different just pick up a new takeoff box from a place that installs utility beds. The money the box costs + having it paint to match will be cheaper than trying to repair your existing box. Plus everything will be new.

they just stick on the bottom of the box.

I plan on keeping my current truck for a long time and am thinking about picking up a new box to set aside for the future since the supply will eventually run out. Even if you don't use the box you will not loose any money on it if you decide to sell in the future.

I've seen them on craigslist for anywhere from $1500 up to $2200 for a brand new take off with tailgate, bumper, and taillights. Prices vary from dealer to dealer but it seems like the average around me is $1800.
