Very little to gain removing it, and they have riden back there for 60 years without any problems.

SEARCH Mustang tank , you put it under the Bed in between the frame rails .
I did it to my 68 , couldn't stand the Gas smell and having 18 gallons of gas inches away from me .

I used a blazer tank because I wanted a fuel injection tank and I got a great deal on a new one at the swap meet.

Thanks guys, I don't mind the gas behind the seat so much but I could use the storage and i would like to weld up the goofy neck hole and I thought a little extra weight behind the rear axle would help.

Maybe there are reasons to move the tank, but these ain't it. There won't be any fumes in the cab provided the sender gasket and the fuel filler hose is good. It's not an issue.

The tank itself is defective in that case. There won't be any odors whatsoever with serviceable parts.

Well, maybe old burlap and truck dog, but not gasoline, anyway.

Or maybe the tranny seal to the floor failed and you are getting engine bay fumes in that way.
