What's a good set of headers for a 79' F100 2wd, with a 351 converted to a 400? It's a slightly built motor with TMeyer pistons and a performance cam, motors not finished yet, but I want to put a set on. Looking to keep the price range around $500 or below, if possible.
There is no shelf header for outside the frame on a 2wd; the steering box is in the way.
I run Hedman headers (89260 I believe) and am happy with the fit and finish. You can click the link in my signature to my build thread for pictures and details. Hooker headers are also good. Avoid cheap headers like dynomax and flowtech
I hear and read a lot of recommendations of breaking in your engine on manifolds before putting on the headers. If the tune or timing is off you can easily cause the exhaust to glow, which usually voids any warranty on the headers.
I can vouch. I have ruined a set of ceramic coated headers (ruined the coating that is). This time around painted headers and pulling them off after for repainting.
