02' Navigator w/130k miles. Well taken care of SUV where everything is factory and nothing has been changed. One day the radio was working fine and the ext its dead. I took the factory head unit out to get the part number from it, found and identical unit off of eBay, order it, installed it and nothing.
So I am guessing that the newer used one is also dead so I am buying yet another one to see if I can get one that works.
I have searched high and low on Google and only find blurbs here and there about these radios crapping out. I have no idea how to check and see if I still have good power so all I have done is check the fuses at both boxes as well as the relays. All seems good with everything and nothing appears to be blown or arched.
How can I check the factory harness for power and that at least there is nothing wrong with the vehicle itself?
Well that didn't take long. I had everything apart and out of the SUV so I decided to take one more look before putting everything in a box. It turns out that it isn';t the head unit that is busted but rather it is the subwoofer amp that has a short. I took the floor trim off to see if there were any wires exposed but found nothing.
So I guess I am looking for a newer used sub amp. I looked on ebay and WOW they want some dollars for old used amps. Are there any cheaper alternatives out there that you guys know of? I would check a yard but they are 50 miles from us and hard to tell if they'll have a good one.
