to keep it short and sweet, i'm looking for a bit better/extra sound out of the factory sound system in my 08 xlt. I have some better component speakers to replace the factory units, and i also have an alpine amp, nothing to special just a 300amp rms unit, enough to power two smaller 10, or a decent 10" low pro sub that i can squeeze under the back seat, or a custom center seat (gonna upgrade to leather in the truck sometime down the road) and toss it under there.
Anyway i want to keep the factory head unit for a couple reasons (the sat. radio, aux. in, sounds good too) and i'm curious if anyone could help me figure out how to hook the alpine amp up to the factory head unit?
the amp has all the standard inputs (rca, tigger wire, power, speaker outs, etc) and my biggest issue is trying to send a signal to amplify, the power and triggers are easy, i just dunno whats all avaible for signal amplification on the factory deck, or if its even possible.
Which head unit do you have? I ask because some Ford factory head units have the aux. jacks for an amp on them others do not. Unfortunately if yours does not you will need to get a after market head unit. If you do have to get an after market unit pioneer and alpine both sell units for around $300 that have the sat. radio direct connect, aux in, and i-pod direct connect (lets you control your i-pod with your head unit and charges the i-pod too). Plus pioneer and alpine produce great products in my opinion. I have an alpine head unit in my '05 f150 lariat. Oh the direct connect kit for sat radio will cost you another $50 to $100 depending on what brand you go with and if you install it yourself or not. Hope this helps.
If your Alpine amp has speaker level inputs you should be able to use those instead of the pre-amp inputs. If not, Crutchfield can hook you up with a converter to adapt from your speaker wires to pre-amp inputs.
