I will be using my diesel for a daily commute to/from work. It's about 8miles each way. I've read on here this is not a good thing for this truck. I may be towing toys in the future but as of now I'm not. I purchased this truck used recently with 128K miles. I plan to address the common issues reported (egr, oil cooler etc..etc..) but what I would like is some basic advice given my regular driving and how best to combat the issues I might see as a result. Should I use an additive, driving style, tune? Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

Welcome to the forum. Best thing to do is post your questions about your specific 6.0L in that forum on this site.
Mostly you need to be aware of the alternator and the charging system.
Here is a link of a recent post about the same/close scenario as you, and it addresses the alternator issue and Original Posters short driving. Especially look at what member TooManyToys has to say:
I did ~8 mile commute for several years with my 6.0. Use a maintainer on the batteries on the weekend, and accept that you'll end up buying batteries more frequently than other people, and a larger alternator is a necessary expense. Defiantly do oil changes at 5k miles because with all the cold starts you might have higher fuel dilution than normal, you can send test samples off to a lab to verify.
Delete the egr, replace the oil cooler, make sure the batteries are new, flush the coolant and replace with ELC type, don't run a tune over 50 hp, keep the oil fresh. These are the parameters we used when we had 6.0's. I think believe steps will put you in the best position for the fewest problems.
