I have been looking for an original mirror assembly for my passenger side and no response. I do not have another F-1 to compare to and was wondering if the mounting bracket on the hinge is universal or side specific. I have seen a couple advertised on eBay as left side and didn't want to chance it until I confirmed my question. The arms must be the same but is the mounting bracket different?
If you are talking about the one in your avatar, they are universal. The bolt for the mirror head passes through the mounting arm, so the head can be mounted on either side. How the mirror head is finally mounted is what determines which side it belongs on.
The bracket that mounts on the hinge that the mirror arm attaches to is different side to side. They will not interchange as the front side is cut to match the curve of the door at the hinge. Dennis Carpenter is reproducing the mirror assemblies for both sides. Bob Jones, bobj49f2, has a tutorial on his web page, fat fendered trucks, on making the hinge bracket. I made one for my truck. The mirror head and arm will fit either side.
I could reverse engineer a pattern from my drivers side bracket but it would be simpler if I had an original passenger side.
Does anyone have a passenger side bracket I could borrow to make a pattern from?
Here are a couple of photos of the die that I made to make a passenger side bracket.
The painted bracket is the original drivers side bracket for my truck. You are welcome to use the die and make a bracket for your truck. It will actually make both left and right side brackets, I radiused both sides of the die. If you are interested in using it, I can mail it to you. Just pay the shipping and return it to me when you are finished with it.
