I need your help on disassemble/install of a right side side mirror.
I found Left side mirror assembly at local junk yard and now trying to install it on my Right side. I tried to unscrew a bolt under mirror it self (see red arrow in attached image), but no luck the bolt's got eaten edges and I can't turn it. The only difference between left and right is the top portion of the assembly where it get attached to the door (see blue arrow in the attached pic). Is the any way I can get it disassembled? I only need the mirror...
If you only need the mirror clamp the bracket/mirror assembly in a vise and cut a slot into the bolt. You can then try using a hammer on a hand-held impact driver with the standard screwdriver to remove the bolt.
It sounds like you have an aftermarket replica door mirror and bracket. Vise grips on the nut and a lot of penetrating lubricant may get it free.
The factory mirror head was held on with a torx tapered head screw from the bottom that threads into the mirror head adjustment "ball" shaft. If the mirror heads are identicle as pictured, you have the early "triangular" headed 6x9 low mount swing locs. 1980-1981. 1982-1986 and up had Areo (Rounded oval) headed mirrors, except the XLS. The XLS had the earlier style mirror heads in black. There are also screws inside the mirror head, behind the mirror glass that holds the mirror head to the "ball" shaft.
Yes, I do have black "triangular" 6x9 heads and I was lucky to find one in black.
Looks like screws inside the mirror just tight movement for view adjustment but will not release the head. I need to try the vise, but first I need to find/buy them
