Question Bad PS Pump??

What are the signs of a bad PS Pump? It doesnt make any noise when turning. I know I still have power assist because I have no problems turning my 33x12.5s, but the truck stalls when I turn at full lock at idle. This is getting slightly annoying when backing a trailer or making tight turns down a narrow log trail. Only thing I do know is that when I bought the truck ('90 F250), I found out the idiot before me used tranny fluid instead on PS Fluid. I flushed it all out and put in proper fluid. Any ideas??

Thanks

Ford actually recommends using Type F tranny fluid for their power steering pumps. You might check to see if your PS pump switch, if you have one, is actually signaling the comp to bump the idle when turning steering wheel.

I hadnt thought of the switch. If Ford recommends type F, then why does the cap and the manual say "Power Steering Fluid Only"

I think it's probably the same reason why they COLOR code the caps and dipsticks on new cars. For those people who don't understand the differences between components or functions.

How exactly do I check the switch? The haynes manual doesnt give any checking procedure other than to say it will throw code 52. Well I checked for codes, both KOEO and KOER, and nothing. Other than that, it says take it to a shop or the dealer.

Thanks
