Does anyone here have a F-150 with 4.2 liter with the XL package? are you as tiredas i am of leaning over and opening the door for other people? does anyone know if it is possible to take the dorrs of of a XLT, and put them on the XL truck? i was wondering about this and i think it can be done, for how much i dont know, but i would like to know.
I've got an XL, and I definitely would like to add the power groups. I'm told the wiring harness is there inside the door, and all you really need to do is pull off the door panels and rig everything up as in the XLT. It wouldn't be an easy conversion but it can be done. If all you're interested in is power door locks, you can get aftermarket solenoids installed with the switches in the doors, or in a remote. Since the door-mount switches usually look cheesy, I'd stick with a remote on the keyring. Hope this helps.

It's easy to Just swap in the Power parts needed into the XL doors for Power, As for the 87-up trucks I'm not sure if the Wiring is Already there for Power Plug & Play. If not You'll run into a witch trying to pull the Pass. Side Door Harnness. It connects to the Driver side pantel and is needed. You'll have to dismantel the whole dash to get this wiring out. I finnished Robbing the Full power Setup from a 95 to install in my 86. For a easy way to tell if Your truck is pre-wired for power is pull the Door pantel and look to see if more then Door Speaker Wire is inside the door. Pass. Will be the best to look in Since there is a disconnect Plug Under the dash for the drivers door, The Pass. Side is a soild wire from Drivers door to Pass. door.
Victoria British has a remote system desighned for older cars, that had no buttons. It looks stock! One click unlocks Drivers side, two unlocks both. You get all the sylonoids, wiring and remotes for like 70 bucks! They don't list them online, but Im looking at them in their catalog right now! I have one in my 302 powered rx7. http://www.victoriabritish.com/index.htm
On the matter of whether or not the wiring is already there for adding power options - I just added power windows to my '94 XL and there was no pre-existing wiring in the doors and the plugs were not there in the cab wiring harness either. I had to run all of the wires myself. Just an FYI for the late model owners.
