My local salvage yard has either a 2005 or 2006 F350 SRW with C code springs I'm not sure of the mileage (I'm going to check), but I can get both of them for $150. Would this be a good choice for spring replacement on my Excursion? We'll be doing a good bit of towing with it. Thanks.

Get them!
Yes, C codes are a great choice for an EX that tows and $150 is a great deal for a set of decent used springs. Do they have anything for the front? Is your rig a 4X4? If possible verify the spring codes via the driver's door jamb sticker from the donor truck.

I haven't checked with them yet. I just noticed the F350 while I was walking around looking for a 2008 console The F350 had coils on the front. If I go to buy them, I'll ask them about fronts. Probably look for some V codes, from the research I've done on here. I'd kind of like to know the mileage on them first. I'm not sure I'd want a set with 200+ thousand miles on them.

Double check that donor truck for the exact year then, in '08 they went with a longer rear leaf spring on the SD trucks, that would require more work to adapt to an EX.

These should have an overload spring, you'll need to remove and you'll be able to re-use your stock lift blocks. I have SRW Cs and like them very much. I had a thread when I did my swap, according to my research, I feel this is a great choice for our trucks.

Thanks for the heads-up. I'm sure it's not an 08. It's the older body style. I just don't remember if it was an 05 or 06
If '05/'06 then you should be good to go.
And as Rob said the C code is a great option, he has done more researching and data mining on rear springs than anyone else that I am aware of.
So the Cs off the F250s or F350s from 99-07 will swap right into an Excursion with no modification and give me a little more height and be better suited for towing?
I have X codes up front, will that be a good match?

The only mod you'll need to make is removing the overload spring. Other than that, it will bolt in. There is a version of a C code that is for DRW, that is a good choice also. Even though on paper I prefer the SRW C, any super duty spring is better than what you had.

I'm going to give them a call and see if they know the mileage on it. Is there a limit, mileage-wise, that you'd recommend? I don't want to buy a pair of worn out springs. It seemed to sit OK, but it's always hard to tell in a junk yard.

Thanks, so there isn't a SD spring that will bolt right in without modification? I found my X codes at a junk yard and took them to a shop and handed them over and said "Here, install these" and am hoping to do the same with the rear springs. I have disassembled leaf springs before so I guess I can do it again, but it can be a pain and Id like to avoid it if possible.

If you just put in the C code the rear end will sit lower than the front. When we sell our replacement X codes up front we supplement them with our ATS Modded C code in the rear. The last thing you want to do is go through all the work of swapping everything in and finding out that the rear end isn't where you want it.

Yes, C codes (or B codes) will swap right under an EX (with the top overload removed to prevent damage to the rear AC lines, any SD rear spring with the top overload needs the same treatment). For a good match for your X codes you may want to do the typical rear spring mod of adding the bottom 2 EX leaves and the slightly thicker between leaf spacers from the EX pack. That will add ride height without really increasing the spring pack's rating much if at all as those bottom leaves are pretty short.
Read this thread to see some of the various pickup spring swaps and how they have improved members EXs. https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...easurents.html

Junior, how would it sit with the stock SRW F350 C code in the rear and V codes up front? That's what I'm considering at this point. I was looking at getting the fronts from you. I just stumbled across these C codes.
