Sometime recently, a discussion was being had regarding a replacement battery. I mentioned that money can be saved by use of online discount coupons. Well, yesterday I purchased a battery for a friend's car and thought I would share the outcome.
I checked the pricing @ O'Reilly's, Autozone, NAPA and Advance. All were within approximately $5 of each other. The best discount I found was @ Advance, so that is where the battery was purchased. I "Googled" Advance Auto discount coupons and then selected the one which helped the most!
I purchased the battery online. The price was $121.99 and the discount [code TRT41] saved $40 for any purchase greater than $100. The core charge of $20.00 was added, but given back at the store when the old battery was left with them. I went to the local Advance Auto Parts 3 hours later and the battery was set aside for me. They installed it and actually did a good job of cleaning terminals, etc.
$121.99 - 40.00 = 81.99 + 7.38 [tax] = $89.37 out the door.
I've been utilizing advanced auto's coupons and deals constantly in the effort to get my truck roadworthy again. I've always had atleast one coupon code, and the "speed perks rewards" can be stacked with a discount code, so I typically go in with 20$ off a 40$ purchase and a 20% discount code. I would have spent over 200$ on an order of Sparkplugs/wires/oil & Filters, and Air filters for my mustang and truck that I installed this past weekend, but the grand total wound up being about 170$ when all was said and done.
I did the same deal with my truck's battery, wound up getting a group 31, which is a monster of a battery for about 120$ after the core refund and everything.
I've been doing this for about 3 years. I can always get a better price than other brick and mortar stores and almost always match/beat online prices. If not, Advance Auto will also price match. I've gotten the RockAuto price at AA many times. As far as I know, none of the other auto parts stores do this.
