After 6 years of hard use, my Ryobi string trimmer is about dead.
What's the best one out there? (Gas) Does anyone make a 4 cycle? I'm tired of mixing oil. I've got one gas can for the chain saw, one for the mower and one for the trimmer. All 2 cycle, but different oil/gas ratio.
My Uncle bought a new yard machine 31cc straight shaft trimmer from wal-mart. He uses titanium threesided string. That string is stronger than hell. He hit a metal fence around some flowers and it bent the fence and didnt hurt the string
Echo has greatly improved their line of string trimmers and such! I have a Husquvarna and a Echo backup and the both have been trouble free.I'm in the lawn business and both get a good workout daily. If your looking for a fair price i would recomend the Echo. Shindowa is another one i would look at i know several people who have them and are satisfied with them.
My Husquvarna is nine years old and still running strong but they can be pricey. Now if i can get my mowers to last that long i would be in good shape.
As for your oil mix situation i would get the universal mix. I get it at Home Depot and only use one can for two cycle.

Echo is the best ! (Trust me, I too, am a landscaper as well, and we landscapers know ) The only time my echo has failed is when stupid me put kerosene in the tank
I just added an Echo to to my fleet. Nice trimmer, so is Stihl.
Mcolouch (spelling?) makes pretty tough trimmers, they can take a lot of abuse, and I'm not easy on my trimmers. These desert mountains really spawn some hardy plantlife and it's very rocky.
Part of my job is to keep 48 or 50 mountain properties clear of weeds.
Iv'e been using an Stihl FS-36 for 13 years .
Basic maintenance is all the attention it has ever seen.
That's not entirely true..I've replace the dern throttle cable three times. Stihl not bad though. It has already outlasted several buddies Echo, Weed Eaters, Ryans etc. etc.
It about due to retire though. The flex shaft it about worn through the tube. My next one will be a straight shaft Stihl.
The engine Stihl runs strong. The plastic case is cracked after my daughter recently dropped it so I don't feel the need to spend the price of a new one in parts to restore this one.
The engine will probably power some thing else before I'm done K'nivin.
hee hee hee hee hee...thats my department. I use an Echo SRM 2100 for by biz. I never maintain it, just fill it with gas and go. Been running strong for 4 years and never had a problem with it. I switched out the head to a Makita and run the titanium line in it. Works great. The 2100 is also the lightest commercial weedeater on the market.
as for trimmers and chain saws i would not run anything but stihl.
and even though i'm only 21 i have had my fair shard of dealings with several different brands of each, and thought a little pricy i wouldnt buy anything but stihl
Buy the Stihl FS80, I have had several brands including the Expensive - CHEAP JUNK RYOBI's. I bought the Stihl and weed eated more ground in 30 minutes that the other took 3 hours to do.
I agree totally. I am also 21 and thats all we use. We get this thing and put a blade on it and cut down trees with it like 1-2 inches in diameter!! Also good for weed wacking your grass! If you want a good chainsaw, leaf blower or weed whipper get a STIHL! I SHOULD AND DO KNOW, I cut down trees and thats all we use. Very little down time! Good luck!
I recommend Echo trimmers. I'm sure that husqvarna and stihl both make good trimmers, but i've never been around one. Having worked in a lawn and garden shop, I have seen many Echo, Homelite, and John Deere trimmers come in to be serviced. Of all I worked on, I liked Echo the best. One or two pulls on the starter rope and they are running. If they came in not running, it usually only took a small carb adjustment and they were running like new. Some of the later model John Deere trimmers were made by Homelite, Deere owned homelite for a few years. I wouldn't call them a bad trimmer, but they just arent an Echo.
