Greetings all. Picking up my 16 F350 next week. Haven't had a diesel since my 1997 7.3 (wish I still had that!!!!) I digress. What is everyone's thoughts on fuel additives? I have a motor home with a Cummings and use additives religiously but it's parked for weeks at a time. Just curious what the thoughts are. Oh and if you do use an additive which one?
Congrats newbie! I'm also a newbie as I just got my first oil change and I've loved every mile. So far what I've heard is you want to use an additive, about every other fill up in winter and every third or fourth in summer. I use the cetane booster from Ford. It also adds to the lubricity. I've heard of opti lube, howes and several others.
I've been using Opti-Lube Summer Plus every tank since I got mine 22,000 miles ago. The couple of tanks that I left it out, the mileage dipped. Opti-Lube is available mail order and I get the gallon pump jug kit with the 8 and 16 bottle for the first order and just the jug after that.
I saw one forum where folks were very happy with this product: http://www.amalgamatedinc.com/news.a...-additive-test
Others like the Performance Formula from Stanadyne: http://www.amalgamatedinc.com/news.a...-additive-test
Motorcraft PM22 is available mostly from the dealer.
PS Diesel Kleen is the most popular, mostly because it is available everywhere but didn't test as well as some others. OTOH, that test is from 2007. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/76-...y-results.html
I use the Ford stuff every few fill ups. The most noticeable thing was when I was stock, the truck regenerated less with the additive. Congrats on the truck.
