I've got my dad's '91 diesel on the rack and both fuel tanks out because he says he runs out of fuel at approx half tank on both tanks. I figured it was strange that both tanks started acting up within just a few months. Low and behold, the pick-up feet were broke off in both tanks. What's the best way to "improvise" here? I did a mod on my powerstroke where I eliminated the foot but I had to put a filter in line since the strainer screen on the foot was removed. Also...can I do anything on these metal tanks to help it vent so I can fill it faster? Thanks!
I was able to buy replacement pick up feet from Guzzles Diesel O Rings. I need to do a tank vent mod also. I decided that i want to keep the factory vent in place. I found a Dodge tank vent kit from Glacier Diesel Power, p/n 0307-TVK. It has the bulkhead fitting, 90 degree fitting, 3/4" barbed hose fitting and 5' hose. The only modification you need to do is to the Fuel Filler Neck.
I got it lined out today. Total cost was about $35 for hose and fittings. I ended up finding a screen that barbs into a 3/8 hose and I put a piece of hose around 8" onto the fuel pickup.
Hey, Tbirdage, I really like the looks of your pick up filter fix. Now that it has been installed for a while (over a year?), has it given you any problems? I'm about to do the same fix on my 94. Great pictures too, thanks!
