Transfer case use question

I know I'm going to regret asking this question because the answer is probably really obvious, but I've been pondering and can't come up with an answer. Why is there a 2H in the shift pattern, (1966 F250)? When would you use 2H?

If I want 2 wheel drive I put the transfer in neutral and unlock the hubs.

Sounds like you could use a 1966 Ford Truck Operator's Manual, sometimes referred to as an owners manual. It covers proper operation of your Transfer Case.

But, you are probably slipping it into the undocumented 2L position. Read this thread. In a nutshell there is a long throw between Neutral and 4L and you are finding the other selection. 2L is OK for off-road, but if you are going on the highway then you'd want 2H for that. Neutral - when you are actually in Neutral - doesn't provide power to the front or back wheels. You'd use Neutral to sit in one spot and run something off of a PTO.
