E4OD transmission pan?

OK guys, I came to ask the gurus a question on transmission pans. I just acquired a 1993 F-150 4x4 with the 5.8L and the E4OD transmission. Unfortunately, my transmission pan is rusted and has a small hole in it. I am very confused about what will fit and what won't fit. I've looked all over locally and at Rock Auto and there are no options for a replacement pan. Dorman supposedly makes one that will fit the 1996+ E4OD, but not the 1989-1995? Confused as hell on that one. What would be different about these? Anyone know if the application would work?

Don't need anything fancy, just a stock replacement. I'm afraid to grab one from the scrapyard as it will likely be just as bad. Any help?

That pan you have a link to is the same exact one that summit has. I'm almost positive that one would work for you. I don't see why it wouldn't. You could chat or call summit to clarify but on their website there are no year exclusions.

My 93 F-250 is the same set up as yours. But my pan has "Metric" embossed on it. The e4od that I bought to replace my tranny also had Metric embossed on it.
The pan in that link looks nothing like either of my pans.
I've read on here that there is a deep pan and a shallow pan, so I'm only guessing that the pan in your link is the shallow pan. I could be wrong.
Don't you have any transmission supply houses in your area? There's two in my area and they sell used parts for all transmissions.
You might do some looking around and see if there are any tranny supply houses in your area.

Bronco Graveyard says the Dorman pan is a deep pan. I'm not sure why it'd be 1996 specific, as far as I know, nothing changed with the pans over the life of the E4OD.

That was my thoughts as well. Only thing I could think is that since the E4OD/4R100 are closely related and 1996/1997 was the transition year that those researching the applications didn't get it right.

Have you looked at the shape of the pan on your truck and compared it to the one online?

I have not actually looked at it myself. Just going by what a local shop told me. It's been colder than a bitch here lately too, so I haven't been motivated to do anything outside. Once I get the truck back home from the shop, I'll have a look. Supposed to get nice this weekend. May go junkyard hunting for a replacement. This truck only has 106k on it so it's too young to give up on yet. Once I get the tranny leak fixed then it's on to two leaking gas tanks. Yay.

That would be the safest bet. When in doubt look at what you have and make sure you get one that looks the same.

if you need a new pan, then buy the one for the 4r100 (they are e4od 4wd depth,so for those with 2wd trucks, you can use it too but insure you use 4wd filters with it) and come with a drain plug.

part# on the box.doorman makes the 4r100 pans too but the motorcrafts are not that pricey if you shop around.i think i used fordpartsgiant

Weather finally warmed up for a couple of days around here and I had a chance to crawl under and take a look at my original pan. The bottom of where the sump is where it is rusted. I originally ordered a Dorman replacement pan, but then ordered a 4R100 pan at the recommendation of F250HDXLT above. I plan to change this out Sunday afternoon as its supposed to be close to 60 degrees out.

One other question that I had is in regards to the pan gasket. The one that I ordered is ATP FG-300. This looks much more narrow than what I am used to seeing. I was thinking of more along the lines of the gasket that comes with the ATP TF-172 kit. Anyone have thoughts or experiences either way or should either be fine?

Hmm. I've got the new Ford pan in the garage along with the box it came in. I don't recall seeing a gasket in the box, but will take a closer look tonight.
