So back ground is as such. Truck started fine before I replaced the hpop with t500 and did the driven diesel regulated return. I have double checked everything is plugged in.
Now when I try to start it cold it will just crank. Yes I get smoke and oil pressure both places. If I give it a shot of ether it will start right up and run fine all day. What am I missing? Yes I know ether bad.
Well, a short list might include:
1. Are you running synthetic oil
2. Oil level
3. Glow plug condition
4. Check set pressure on regulated return
5. Have you tried block heater
6. Starting issues just when cold or anytime
1. Are you running synthetic oil: no
2. Oil level: just changed it and it's good.
3. Glow plug condition: not sure they were good before I changed everything out.
4. Check set pressure on regulated return: set to 70 psi.
5. Have you tried block heater: no it's been above 30 here no need for it.
6. Starting issues just when cold or anytime: just cold after sitting for a few hours. Resubmit is full before trying to start.
The big question is, did the mods you make have anything to do with the issue or did this issue just happen to develop around the time you did the mods. Many would argue that you do mods in stages. That way if you have a sudden issue, you know to go back to the last mod and that is most likely the source. As you may have done these at one time, it could be one, the other, a combination of both or neither one. I think you are going to receive several "switch to synthetic oil" replies as that seems to solve many peoples cold starting issues. Here is some more info to consider...http://oregonfuelinjection.com/pdf/f...diagnostic.pdf
No tach is a sign of CPS issue but that should happen anytime, not only when cold. Sure it starts with a shot of ether, it can also blow up with ether but you already know that....
If ether starts, you might not be getting fuel. If your HPOP isn't high enough, the injectors won't fire...hence, no fuel.
Block heater makes the oil thinner, as it does when warmed up. Thinner oil in the startup (cooler weather) can build HPOP faster and fire fuel injectors sooner.
Hope this helps. (In addition to the other advice you are getting)
If it starts and stays running with an initial shot of ether, that often points to a low ICP condition while cranking. Do you have any way to monitor IPR duty cycle, ICP psi and ICP voltage while cranking?
If it starts and stays running with an initial shot of ether, that often points to a low ICP condition while cranking. Do you have any way to monitor IPR duty cycle, ICP psi and ICP voltage while cranking? Iprdc is 36.5. Icp is 2300 psi. Icp raw is 600?
