So my cam is wiped out.78 400 6.6
I'm really not sure what kind to get or what brand.I would really like a roller cam and lifters. so I don't have to worry about braking it in that bad.
I'm not looking to build a drag truck.but I would like to get the most I can out of it. with out braking the bank.
I'm hoping I can get a full kit.camshaft, lifters, push rods, and timing gears and chain.

Howard's cams makes link bar roller lifters. They can be had for around $350 if you shop around. Need more info on your combo but is usually recommend Howard's small mild roller or something from the comp Xtreme energy line.
If u wiped a cam lobe you need to take a look at the bearings
Probably looking at around $800 for cam, lifters, timing chain and valve spring set

I was hoping someone offers a full kit.because I don't knowto do the math on compression ratio
I'm going to take it all apart and have the block inspected.it has a oiling problem.the bearings are making a bad sound. I'm replacing everything except the crank and pistons
Tim Meyer can set you straight. If you have a stock 400, the best budget build is a stock rebuild with tim's 9.5:1 pistons. I run his grooved cam bearings and oiling modifications as well. I had access to a cheap set of Aussie Cleveland heads so I went that route which makes for about 10:1

I'm not sure what all was done to the motor.I know it was a fresh rebuild.the pistons are stock.I think it may already have a big cam I never could get the lope out of it. Do aftermarket cams have brand names stamped on them or anything like that.so I can find out what it has already?
