pressurized cooling system.

Good morning. I have a 2001 F-350 w/7.3. I cannot figure this out. The cooling system seems like it has an over abundance of pressure in it. I can take the cap off and it will literally move my arm up into the air. I have replaced the water pump, the thermostat and flushed the cooling system to no avail. When the truck warms up the temp doesn't go above the low middle mark on gauge. There appears to be nothing in the overflow tank ie oil or fuel so I am at a loss as to what it could be. Any help with this delemma

May want to take the cap to auto parts store & have them check the pressure. Should be close to 16 psi or buy a new one & see how it does.

You haven't said if it's under pressure when hot or cold. If the engine is stone cold, and there's a ton of pressure, that would be very odd. If pressurized when hot, that's normal.

Well it will build pressure when warming up. My concern is as I know it is supposed to build pressure up but when it reaches the full 16 psi or obviously more it blows coolant out of the radiator cap as if a blockage is creating the pressure.
On to another is it possible for the cooling system to hold pressure and a cup to be bad/ reason asking is I have an injector that appears to be injecting or possibly bypassing the injector. When I crank the engine to check for coolant loss, I pulled all the glow plugs and only the #7 injector continues to blow out fuel. I replaced that injector with another injector and still does same thing. Is it possible to be a cup that is creating this whole situation??

If it's blowing the coolant out then I'd say it's head gaskets, if not, and dose this when hot only, that's normal.

I would replace the cap first but there is a kit that I bought at NAPA some time ago when I had a blown head gasket in my H1 Hummer. It worked great. Don't remember the price but it wasn't too bad. If it comes to that, NAPA part number for the kit is BK 700-1006.

I'm having difficulty following the precise symptoms here, other than the degas bottle is blowing coolant. A couple of things come to mind:
  • The degas bottle almost never stays at the full cold line - the coolant seems to like to hang around an area below that line. If you fill to the cold fill line, it will likely blow coolant.
  • A loose injector and blown injector cup combination will put combustion gasses in the coolant - making it overflow quickly. This also leaves a sooty residue in the degas bottle.

HA! You call that soot? Here let me show some soot/crud in the degas:
Started out like this, after doing my injectors/cups over the summer:

It eventually got to this point, before I re-torqued my injectors and replaced the de-gas bottle with a new Dorman one. By this point, it was leaking at the seam. So far, no more gunk in the bottle, and the coolant level is steady.:

I don't think you can legally grow that stuff in your truck in this country....

What's with the festering open wound redness? Is that just the ELC coolant color?

Uhh... that invites a sob story (look away now if you can't stomach it):

Injectors worked loose and blew cup number 8 - new cups all around and new coolant round 1. Cup 6 was a fail - coolant 2. Oil cooler - coolant 3. Oil cooler fix was a fail - coolant 4. Injector 5 worked loose as well as the cup - coolant 5. There were a couple of rounds of ELC in there somewhere, but I figure my coolant will never get old enough to worry about the SCA additive wearing out.
