cooling system pressure

what should i check if the cooling system doesnt hold any pressure? it is an 89 e250 5.0 and there doesnt appear to be any leaks and i just changed the thermostat and the temp sending unit because the temp gauge says it is overheating

The cap would be the first thing I'd check. Are you sure it's not holding pressure?

Blown headgasket may be the next culprit.

here is a better summary of what is happening: the gauge when driving is hovering at the end of the normal just before hot, the truck still runs fine, the exhaust is not smoking, the temperture of the coolant in the radiator is about 195 F, new 195 F thermostat, radiator cap, temperature sending unit, and no diagnostic codes. should i change the coolant temperture sensor or do i have another bad temp sending unit? are there any checks i can do on the temp sending unit?

Do you have bubbles in the coolant? I tend to doubt it's the sensor or the sending unit. Your system should pressurize.
