I have a customer with an 05 with the 5.4 and its got broken manifold studs...I know shocker. Anyway the customer wants me to upgrade to headers and a new y-pipe, so my question is whats everyone using? Looking for something either ceramic coated or stainless, needs to be good quality, as we live in the salt belt, and he plows with it.
I was told any shorty header that fits the 3v mustang will fit just fine. That said its a total waste of time and money of looking for more power. The best upgrade is what I did. Ditch the y pipe all together and go h pipe and dual exhaust. Huge power and mpg gain. Best money I ever spent
I'm assuming you didn't install headers. I don't really think hes looking for performance but he is looking for something that will last longer than the stock manifolds is a salty area.

Sarge
I didn't but will next time. I had both manifolds replaced at 50 and 80,000 miles but both under warranty. Next time I will be on the hook for the install and the full price so I will definitely be going with the higher quality product
I have Gibson stainless headers on my 2004 with STOCK STUDS and have never had one issue and i live in NJ and they salt for rain here. Biggest issue is lack of cleaning, i wash my truck off year round even in below freezing weather and brKe lines, fuel lines, exhaust studs are all rust free. Yet i know people with same year truck as me and newer and they are completely rotting apart
He's pretty ****, and I know he keeps his truck clean. I've always had good luck with Gibson stuff when I've used it in the past. Thanks I'll pass the info along.
The ypipe isn't as crappy on the 05' gas trucks as the one that came on the 00'-04' trucks. The Gibsons would be a good choice as is the JBAs. The ceramic coating even on stainless headers will chip and peel eventually but it does help to add some protection. Any spots that peel can be touched up with some header paint. Just be aware the header bolts will probably have to be retightened a few times, mine did.

"As crappy" is the key statement there. With nothing more then a h pipe to replace the y pipe I went from 9.33 to 7.81 seconds 0-60 and gained just at 2 mpg. Huge gains. Although the y pipe may not be bad there are much better options

Whats the best company to purchase a h pipe and exhaust system.

There aren't any made that I know of. I had mine custom made. I'm trying to workout a deal with my exhaust guy to make a system but he doesn't want to commit yet without enough people wanting them and unfortunately I don't think there is enough interest.
If I had it my way I would develop a universal H or X pipe system that could have on road or off road options that would fit the v10 and 5.4. A 6.2 option would he good too.
If I can get probably 50 people to commit and if I could lineup a few trucks for test fitting I think he would go for it
