Picked up a 460 and c6 today, guy said it came out of a 70 Lincoln car but wasn't sure. Got it home tore it down and discovered damage in the valley. It this still safe to run or am I out the money.
If that is a true 70 lincoln block it will have DOVE cast into the side of it. Those blocks have the thicker main bearing webbing. Disassemble the block and have it checked for cracks. If there are no cracks take a rotary file to all the holes in the valley web and clean them up. Remove the flashing and any jagged edges. Even on the hole that isn't supposed to be there. If you are going to use a 460 I recommend you visit 429-460.com. Lots of good technical stuff over there including things you should do to the block before building it. Like what I stated above, chamfering the oil drain back holes etc....
There is really no stress/strain areas near those two faults. They look like casting errors and nothing more. If it is a 1970 engine it probably has 100,000 miles as it is.
