Tried that as stated in an earlier post.............for some strange reason it got cooler!!!!!

Now that you have a way to measure the temps I would do it again just for S&G's

That little hole is to allow you to fill the system without burping.
There's no way it would pass enough coolant to cool the engine.

If you are only at 143* why would you expect to have pressure or for the 195* thermostat to open???
The heater loop is always independent of the thermostat, and there won't be pressure until coolant in the engine tries to boil..
This is the whole point of keeping the cooling system under pressure!
