Stalling Out

HELP!...Anybody know where the Fuel Pump Relay is on a 2000 Explorer XLT?...Won't stay running...will start but immediately dies whenever gas pedal is released. Any ideas? has 79k miles.

Would be grateful for any advice.

If it stalls when you take your foot off the gas. IAC controls minimum engine rpm. Most engines will stall if this becomes electrically disconnected. Usually located on the side of the intake manifold. Try tapping it, it may have a stuck valve.

Thanks for getting back to me!..Gonna run right now and see if i can locate IAC as you said....man I hope that;s it...you mentioned that it may have come undone or disconnected...that mean it uses some sort of wring harness?...anyway..gonna check it...if i can find it and tapping it works...may your well bring forth your favorite ale from now until the end of days!!!!

Thanks Billy, gonna try both suggestions....as soon as I can get my wife to stop freaking out about holding a flashlight while the mosquitos are eating us alive...

u take operas advise these air idle controls are known to stick open or leak needs replaced if dirty jack

Kudos to Opera,

The IAC was in fact the culprit. It was hidden under a plastic cowel
right in the center of the manifold. By the time I found it i was pretty pissed off, so it took all my control not to smack the damn thing into scrap metal...I didn't..and a few love taps got it working again.

Went to an auto parts store and got some intake and throttle cleaner...cleaned it up and hopefully added a little more life to it.

Thanks also to Billy and to jack for their responses as well. I'm not much use under the hood than a curious spectator, but I am truly grateful for your expertise and generous time.

You saved me a heap a dough, and being recently laid off, I needed a break in fending off another uneccessary bill.

I send you all a cyber -beer and a real toast ! Truck is back on the road, and now, if I can only get my teenage daughters from using it, I might take it out for a victory lap.
