I've done countless hours of research. Still don't have a definate answer. I'm running an external balance 460 with a 180 tooth flywheel. Behind that is an external mount slave cylinder aluminum bell housing from an 80s Ford. Behind that is a NP435 4 speed.
I have room to run a full size starter with fenderwell exit headers. I'm not sure which starter I will need. It's been a while since I did the research (got frustrated and worked on other things) but I remember running into either a 9 or 10 tooth starter. I'm not sure if that was the only variation or not.
If you have a direction in which I should be pointed. It would be greatly appreciated. Really don't want to damage my brand new flywheel with the wrong starter choice. Thank you.
Converted my 86 dually from a T19 to a ZF 5sp. Dont think I changed flywheel years later installed Hooker headers. for more clearance used a manual trans factory ford mini starter from a newer model 460.
