The check engine light came on so I brought to them my truck seemed to be running fine. They tested the fuel and it was fine and they found metal shavings in one injector which clogged it so they said the other injectors compensated for it so Monday they are going to take it apart to find out what caused it he said he thinks it has to do with the high pressure line but not sure
That's good. Sounds like they're checking for the source, like I said. Hope everything works out.
Follow up question, to anyone; is it possible the shavings DID just come from the injector? Clogged it, and that's as far as it got? Being fairly new to diesels myself, I don't know for sure. Just seems odd to me, and I would want everything checked. Especially at only 2500 miles.
Sounds like they are actually headed where they need to go then. That would be a better procedure then just replacing an injector and calling it a day.

It sounds like everyone just assumed the HPFP failed and are convinced a new fuel system is needed. I really think if it failed there would be way more than a single injector gone bad.
It seems plausible to me that the injector manufacturer could have made a bad one or allowed a bad one through QC and now it's manifested itself in the customer's truck. If the fuel filters come back clean, I would lean towards a single bad injector. Remember this video? This was back in 2012 when the sky was falling.
The service rep at ford said if any shavings went into any of the other injectors it would have burned up because disel engines run so hot and they are clear except one. Should I contact ford customer service before the dealer officially says they are only replacing only one injector or wait to see what they say ?
Welcome to the forum, DerekF350disel! I'll be happy to look into this to see what options are available to assist. Since you're a new member, you may not have access to PMs yet. If that's the case, send your details (full name, best daytime phone number, VIN, current mileage, and servicing dealership) to custserv@ford.com. This email address is not actively monitored, so be sure to put my name ("Crystal") in the subject line and post here once you've sent it. That's how I'll know to go and look for your message. If you'd prefer, you can contact my colleagues at the Customer Relationship Center at 1-800-392-3673; they have the same ability to assist that I do.
First, let Crystal know and let her help monitor your case.
Second, let them find out what happened and go from there.
Third, you still have a long bit of warranty left and now documentation that ONE injector was clogged with metal at a very early mileage.
Fourth, like other have said, if they don't pull fuel filters and check them - ask that they do, but you have at least given them the chance to check them out first.
THEN depending on what happens and what Ford and the dealer do - figure out what you need/want to protect yourself later on.

It seems odd that if metal shavings or debris at manufacture got into the fuel system that only ONE injector would get hit with it... So if everything else check out OK I'd be happy with just an injector change out and try and get a free fuel filter change and inspection out of it for later to make sure the HPFP and related components are good to go.
On the other hand, if the fuel filters have debris in them then I agree that a new fuel system 'kit' with a flush, and refill with fresh fuel is needed...
They said they are going to replace the fuel line and injectors but not replace the fuel pump. They don't know where the metal shavings came from, so if they don't know where they came from why not replace the pump. How do they know there's nothing in the pump or didn't damage it in anyway? Sounds like to me they are taking the cheap way out and possibly just kicking the can down the road on a 67K truck.

Well look who's trolling the threads . Chime in brother, at least about something else. Like your RV or perhaps anything else going on.
That's what they said, the ford engineers are telling the dealer what to replace and what not to the only way I would feel comfortable in any way is to replace the hole system exspcially them not knowing exactly what caused it not to mention this could/will hurt the resale of my truck down the line I know if I was buying a used truck I would look up the car fax and ford maintenance history and if I found after only 2500 miles the fuel system had to be replaced I would be a Little wary. I'm giving the GM at the dealer a chance to do the right thing before I contact Crystal this is the second new truck I bought from this dealer in the last 5 years, but it's now the second day I've gone to the dealer trying to talk to him with no response if he doesn't contact me today I'll give Crystal a shot to do the right thing

Keep us posted, DerekF350disel; I'll be here if you need me to step in and assist.
I wish you the best with getting the dealer to do what makes you feel the best.
I still bet that most people go in to the dealer and say fix it and as long as it is running when they get it back all is good. Not too many people go in and get into the finer details of what went wrong and why wasn't this replaced. In my own experience it just takes a little more time if the dealer repair idea and yours do not match. Crystal can sometimes help grease those decision wheels though. As I am sure that FoMoCo (and her) all want to come back and say how happy you are. Heck, I don't even own Ford stock and want you to come back and say how happy you are.
You would think/hope ford will do the right thing, I buy two new trucks from this dealer and with only 2500 miles on my over 67K truck. I bring it back because my check engine light comes on last Wednesday. They tell me it's a fuel issue code and told me I know it's not what I want to here but it might be bad fuel and I will have to pay for all the repairs. I ask them to let me know ASAP so if it is bad fuel I can file a complaint with the station while they still have some in the tank so it can be tested. Thank god for me it came back fine after they tested the fuel. Yesterday they said ford engineers told them to replace the injectors and fuel line but not the fuel pump. They now have had my truck for 5 days and said it will probably be a couple days to get the parts and a couple days to put it back together. This is now the second time I lost money since they've had my truck because I needed my truck for a side job and couldn't because it's in pieces. So Best case scenario I should get my truck back Saturday or Monday which means they've had my truck for 11 business 13 days and not replacing the hole fuel system and no extended warranty. If this happens again because the hole system wasn't replaced, potentially they could have my truck for a month seeing how they will now have had it for almost half a month when I've only bought it 2 months ago. I'm new to this site and I am grateful for everyone's help and insight, has anyone ever worked with Crystal? I've sent her my information because she said she will look into it for me. Should I call ford directly or see if Crystal can help me first. I just want to get my truck back as soon as I can with no chance of having to tie my truck up again for another 2 weeks. I will have to bring it back for another issue my headlights fog up and said I have to bring it back when my headlights are at its worst because after sitting in their heated shop for 2 hours there was still condensation in both my headlights but he said it's not enough to replace them. The first day after I took delivery I had to bring it back to them because a ball bearing was rolling around in my back door so they took my door apart to remove it, it was a very annoying noise. Everyone thank you again for your help.
Thank you Crystal I just emailed you my information vin, phone number , email address that you requested
Got it, DerekF350disel; thanks for reaching out. I responded to your email with the case escalation info, but be sure to post any updates here since that email address isn't actively monitored.
