getting ready to start doing o-rings after a cold start and truck just pissed oil, so my question is, do I absolutely have to drain coolant out of radiator, or can I get away with draining block?
That depends on how much coolant you want in your oil pan. It's going in there no matter what you do, but you can limit the quantity. After the oil cooler job, I poured a quart of sacrificial oil in the engine with the drain open to push the coolant out.
That's what I thought, I already drained it. Thanks Tugley. Off to finish teeing this thing out. To bad it's not warmer out, it'd make this much more pleasurable.
Northern Utah. when I pulled it free from the front mount and out of truck, the front o-ring wasn't on the cooler. I felt around up in the front cooler mount and didn't feel it there either.
It's in there. You should really pull the forward mount off so you can clean and inspect it anyhow.
I agree 100%. This went bad on my truck last year. In the winter also. It's not a bad job. Just remember when it's on the bench and you are cleaning it up the center section holds a LOT of oil. Took for ever for it to stop running out of there.
