Big truck guys.......insurance?

I wouldn't even think to register my classic truck with an insurance company that doesn't specialize in classics.
I registered my '56 F500 with Classic Plates just a few weeks ago here in Connecticut. The DMV didn't even bother to decode the VIN and the truck didn't even need to go to the DMV for an inspection or anything. And the Classic Plates here in Connecticut do not restrict me from usage except that I can't be "for hire."
But my insurance company (Hagerty) did decode the VIN and knew exactly what it was. They asked a few simple questions which I answered honestly and I paid $170 for the entire year. The answers to my questions allowed me to do the things I would want to do with a flatbed truck: tow, haul wood, etc.
Hagerty also knows how to treat a classic in case of a claim, need to tow, etc. I wouldn't have even thought about using anyone else. (thought there may be other classic specialists)
Edit: Here is Hagerty's policy on towing: ◦Vehicles in excess of 8,000 pounds gross vehicle weight are only eligible for 10 miles of towing service, cannot be accommodated on a flatbed, and may require special equipment.

Check your policy, not just classics particularly if you're not judgment proof.
Meaning if you have some assets. State mandatory minimums aka "liability" are very low and not realistic in today's litigious society and even a few days in the hospital can mean serious $$$ and lawsuits. Remember liability is for the other guy, their property, or even damaged property, etc. It adds up quick.
If the worst happens and you are found at fault the ins. co. will simply cut a check up to the limits of the policy and then they are done with it. But any judgment or finding over and above this number means you personally are liable. The good news is that the liability portion of a policy is (relatively) dirt cheap. Just a few dollars a month can bump up the liability to a figure that is realistic to modern medical and legal costs.

Update....I ended up getting a policy through State farm, normal coverage, not commercial, no restrictions. Decent price. I'm happy.
I did call Hagerty and told them what I had and wanted to do with it. They said they couldn't cover me and that my truck(and use) didn't "work with our program". Whatever.
