01 expedition low cabin heat.

Hiya friends.

Have plenty of air but my cabin heat is basically just warm.

In the explorer it's like I'm camping at the gates of Hades but this expedition, it just doesn't get very hot.
Any remedying ideas?

I do need a coolant flush, it's very acidic.

You need to verify if the blend door is moving all the way over to the hot side.

So if the blend door is swinging ALL the way over, are both the heater core inlet and outlet hoses to hot to keep your hand on them?

I think what's going on here is that it's taking a little longer for the water to heat up in this rig.
Seems a lot faster in the Explorer.

What is the factory coolant for this rig?
Orange stuff?

If it's taking too long to get hot then the thermostat could be stuck open.

The Explorer typically holds 15 to 16 qts of coolant.
The Expy with rear climate control will take 25+ qts.

(and if you crank the blowers on both the front and rear heater cores on high it can take 15 minutes to get all that coolant hot.)

Is the engine coolant temp getting to the proper temp? It probably has a 190 deg thermostat.
Are the heater lines getting hot? When the coolant comes out of the intake manifold there is a restrictor inside the hose with a crimp clamp holding it in place. Then it goes thru the heater control valve. Is the coolant hot is all 3 places? Is the heater control valve opening? Even if the control valve vacuum diaphragm is torn the valve should stay open. There might be a blockage in the restrictor or the control valve. Even normally the restrictor will slow down the amount of heat the heater is producing. I've read the restrictor is used to slow down the flow thru the heater to eliminate a whistling noise the flow produces in the heater core. Our 2002 Excur V10 does not have a restrictor.

What thermostat would you recommend other than the 190 deg?
What should be in the rig?
Honestly my hoses are not particularly hot coming from radiator. Can easily hold my hand on it.

Use a 190/195 thermostat. If your hoses are not getting hot then that means the thermostat is stuck open and preventing the engine from reaching operating temperature. Changing the thermostat should fix the low heat issue.
