We put the hubs back on and took it out for a 30 minute drive and all was well.

The only thing we can figure is Heat was expanding the fluid in the right rear line and the longer we ran the engine the hotter it was getting. The brake pedal therefore was getting harder to push as there was no place for the hot fluid to go.
Congratulations!

Do you think you need to replace the brake fluid which has been overheated repeatedly?

Joe -Yes we did it when we bled the brakes. Flushed a good amount out as we refilled the master and I am sure we got to the new stuff. I should have put that in the last post - I'll see if I can edit it Thanks.

My 55 was doing the same thing. Finally the master cylinder gave up, no brakes but very hard pedal. I had to drive it home with no brakes. Now I am the process of changing the master cylinder, hampered by some kind of bug that I caught. The brake parts you get now are a crapshoot. When I can afford it I am going to change to a dual master cylinder.

Rite on Dave, good job hanging in there on this one. This was one of those problems that is great to have everybody's input to help get it solved. Great example of FTE members acting as a family unit. And great job of you (Dave) keeping a cool head and working thru the problem systematical. Congratulations. "FTE ROCKS ON", And Dave's truck stops on.

Elmo did you check to see how close the brake lines are to a heat source- it is something I never gave a second thought too until nothing else worked to solve the problem.

Thanks Jim, it is people like you that make this a great place to have fun with and solve problems that have one stumped.

It is a bone stock truck, no heat sources close to the brake lines. Thanks for the tip though. It is usually hard to diagnose troubles over the Internet as you have seen. I am replacing all the lines, hoses, and master and wheel cylinders. I think my troubles are age and wear. Napa has all the pieces or can order them.
