Lifter tic after repairs

About a month ago I took my truck in for a coolant leak under warrantee which went horribly wrong and I ended up with new crank bearings as well as a few other things. This all took three weeks. When my truck was returned it had a horrible lifter tick which was promised to disappear after 500 miles. 600 miles later no cookie so before I call them up I wanted a little more info on what’s causing it. The tic is loud when cold, unnoticeable when idling warm (with AC on) as well as under acceleration, loud when I let of the gas and slightly their when idling with AC off. Does it sound like bad oil pressure?

Not only does it sond like oil pressure, why did they replace the crank bearings??? over heating ???
The cam bearings in the engine has the most impact on oil pressure there for if the engine had enough problems to replace the crank bearings, why not install a new block? You are in for lots of extended and expensive problems that will leanger for years.
I would install a manual oil pressure gage so I could see whats happening with the oil pressure.
and take it back to the shop and have them do it right.

On a side note. Lifters will tap at any rpm, hot or cold. Take it back and demand them to fix it, at their cost, no matter if they have to replace the motor. If it gets louder on deceleration, so I am told from troubleshooting my own problems, this is a rod bearing.

Good luck!

Lifter tic after repairs

Ok the whole story. On a Friday I realized that my intake manifold gasket had sprung a leak so I made an appointment for Monday to have it replaced under warrantee. I didn’t drive it all weekend and brought it in Monday. They then later informed me that the intake manifold gasket was leaking (BIG SUPPRISE) so they went to it and snapped a bolt in the head. They then removed the head and had it reassembled by Friday, started it up and claimed it the threw a wrist pin which was found in the oil pan and the oil was contaminated with coolant (which they claimed was nobody’s fault, right). So now the warrantee company had to come look and after another week (2 weeks total) they claimed it was fine (yet didn’t run?). So now they sent the block to a machine shop to inspect it found that no wrist pin was broken, replaced the crank bearings and one piston, maybe no one really knows what they did to it (which I yelled about). Stuck it back together and told me to pick it up. When I did the lifter tic was horrific and they claimed it would go away soon. Also my tranny pan is dinged and I have a new whirling whine type of noise from the rear. All and all it took 3 weeks, I got it back in worse condition then what I left and Monday heads are gonna roll. That’s my story if anyone has suggestions on anything feel free to voice them.

P.s. it runs great but sounds like %^&$ and the reason i dident get the new block i wanted in the midst of this is beacouse the warentee company is cheep.

Sounds like a case for the BBB. You have a fight on your hands. I would contact my lawyer just to have him send a letter if I were you
Good Luck!

well I got my truck back today, now with a new cam and bearings, but it still ticks. They want me to drive it for awhile, however I don't think thats gonna help. The next step is a new engine. The only thing left now is whos gonna pay for it.

They should pay for any and all. should also find a good shortblock or longblock to replace your motor with. might also find a new mechanic after all this fun sounds like they are half your problem.

later

Did you ever think about it being a bent pushrod? Just a suggestion. I have heard of bent pushrods being mis-diagnosed as a bad lifter.
