Honestly, unless the temps get down to below 20F, don't worry about anything.
If you expect temps in the 10F or lower range, then you should prepare a little(this is when you want the diesel additive). 30F isn't anything to worry about at all.
A good glow plug system on an IDI will start it down at 10F as long as the fuel isn't jelled.

I do agree after reading a lot of the responses and doing some research on the weather now that the date is closer. I've never had experience with a diesel in snow before so I wantedto make sure all my bases were cover even if unnecessary.
I finally got out to test my Block heater. I used a ohm Meter on the cord coming out the front and didn't like the results. My meter read OL. I didn't have much time to look into it any farther but at this point I know I can't use the block heater.
I either have a bad cord going to it which I don't drought. The cord looks original from 1989 and most likely never used or touched. I don't even think the previous owner knew it was there.
Or I have a bad element. More test is required to see if that's the case
I guess its good news to find out I wont need it unless we encounter sub 0 temps.
Check to make sure the cord is stii plugged into the heater.
Ah yes. I did not check that. I was testing it late last night. Hopefully in the morning I'll be able to check into it farther. Maybe even get the cord out and test it separately to make sure is got good connectivity through out.
Good news everyone. The trip was a success. The truck preformed beautifully and had no issues what so every. Actually it even got double the range out of the fuel than I normally get which was a nice bonus.
Thank you all for the help making it a hazard free trip.

I knew you'd be fine. Congrats on your first cold weather trip in a idi.
