I have a 2001 F350 4x4. My transmission went out a while back. It would only go in reverse. I had it rebuilt and it is still having issues. When I take off with speed from a dead stop it shifts late...about 3000 RPMs. It shifts fine until it shifts into overdrive. It will go into to 4th then right into overdrive causing the truck to act sluggish. I'm looking into my truck not starting well at any temp too! I didn't know if it could all be connected some how. My mechanic said that when he first started my truck it had a MAP sensor code. He also said that when he unplugged that sensor it didn't change the way the truck ran..Still like crap. I have changed all glow plugs relays and even did the 50 cents mod to it. Nothing has helped this truck..Any ideas??

I'm confused. First you say it shifts late from a dead stop, then you say it shifts fine till OD. Also, 4th gear is overdrive. Maybe you are feeling the torque converter locking up and thinking it's another gear?
When I'm at a dead stop and take off quick it shifts at around 3000 RPMs. If I take it real easy, very, very easy taking off in 1st then it seems to shift fine. I meant shifting from 3rd to overdrive it shifts very fast. It go see from 3Rd to OD one right after the other.
I hooked up my scanner about a day ago and didn't get a code one. When I drive the truck when it shifts out of first gear the OD light starts to flash. I will hook my scanner up again when my code flashes and let you know what I come up with!
If there is a flashing OD light, there is a code stored. If your scanner can't find one, you need a different scanner. There are lots of scanners that can't read these trucks. You need one specific to the Ford 7.3. You can get a somewhat expensive one that hooks to a laptop called AutoEnginuity. With the Ford specific bundle it is $359 from Riff Raff Diesel. Click here
Or you can get a bluetooth adapter (Click here for the one I use) and if you have an Android phone, Torque App is $5.99, a good bluetooth adapter is about $80 so for under $100 you are in business. There are cheaper bluetooth adapters made in China but they are hit and miss.
As mentioned it sounds like the Torque Converter is the shift you are feeling right before OD.
Hopefully the flashing OD light is a bad sensor or something easy. Is there a WARR from the place you had it rebuilt? They should at least read the codes for you and look into it.
