429 history?

Hello everyone I picked up a parts truck recently that came with a 429. The heads read D0VE-C not sure about the block. I'm sure it came from a car because the frame was notched to clear the car manifolds and it has a huge front sump oil pan. I've read that some of these early 429s had pretty high compression and I'm not sure if I can run it on regular 87 octane pump gas? If not it's not much good to me as I don't want to be buying 90+ octane fuel. Thanks for your help.

D0ve-c head are the most desirable of the stock 385 heads on a flattop piston 429 they will make 10.5 -1 compression. So pump gas might be an issue.

Some of those were 11.3 as OEM. 87...not.

The key word is flat top Pistons. CJ engines didn't have flat top Pistons

I'm pretty sure it's not a CJ but I will check the block casting numbers tonight. So that means it has 10.5-1 compression correct?

I have a 429 from a 1970 LTD. It has D0VE-C heads also. I run it on regular pump gas with no issues.

Thanks for the reply. I've got a good TMyer 400 I'm going to use instead. I'll save the 429 for my mud truck.
